When it comes to making a kids’ room feel extra special, it’s the little design touches that go the longest way. In our Calhoun Acres model home, we added a fun, affordable twist to the girls’ bedroom with a painted headboard accent wall behind each bed — and the result is just as sweet as Emma and Olivia’s names above them.
This DIY is beginner-friendly, super customizable, and the perfect weekend project to infuse any space with color and character (no wallpaper or power tools required!).
🛠 What You’ll Need:
- Painter’s tape or string/tack to outline the shape
- Measuring tape and pencil
- Paint in your color of choice (we used a soft, earthy mauve to complement the room’s palette)
- Angled paintbrush and small roller
- Optional: Laser level or stencil for extra precision
🎨 How We Did It:
1. Measured & Mapped the Arches
We centered each arch above the headboards and measured their width and height to ensure a balanced look on the wall. A pencil, string, and tack helped us create that smooth arch curve with ease.
2. Taped & Painted
We taped the outer edges of the arch using painter’s tape and freehanded the curve for a softer, organic shape. Then we filled it in using a small roller and angled brush to get clean edges and even coverage.
3. Added the Finishing Touches
Once dry, we installed personalized name cutouts in a playful gold for each twin, making the space feel truly theirs. The floral bedding, bunny art, and soft pastel palette all tie the room together for a dreamy, cozy vibe.
💡 Dunhill Designer Tip:
Try a bold tone for a pop of drama, or keep it soft for a more calming, serene feel. Headboard accents work beautifully behind beds, cribs, desks, or reading nooks—and you can even layer them with shelves, names, or artwork.
🏡 Why We Love It
- No special tools or experience required
- Easily changeable as styles evolve
- Perfect for kids’ rooms, nurseries, or anywhere you want a playful focal point
- Adds depth and visual interest without taking up floor space
At Dunhill Homes, we believe every room should have a little something special—and this painted headboard accent wall was the perfect touch to bring this space to life.
